Student Essay

Recognizing the value and importance of preserving our nation’s history, the Holiday Observers, Inc. encourage and support the observance of national, state, and local holidays for the residents of the Borough of Allendale, Bergen County, New Jersey. In furtherance of this philosophy and mission, we promote civic awareness through our educational activities.

We sponsor two essay contests for Brookside School students, The Meaning of Memorial Day for seventh grade students and during President’s Week for eighth grade students: What does American Citizenship Mean to Me.
 

Seventh grade Language Arts teachers and the eighth grade Social Studies teacher select winning essays.

The two students of the winning essay for each contest receive an honorarium award of $250.
